Brian Hayes, Potter
In 1976, after fifteen years of full time teaching, Brian established his pottery studio on five acres of rolling foothills near Coloma. All Brian's work is designed and created without apprentices or hired hands.
In 1989 he made the first of four trips to Japan to work with potters and fire wood burning kilns. Studio projects are done in stoneware and porcelain clays. They reflect Brian's interest in Japanese Aesthetics and Native American Cultures.
When he is not in the mountains on hiking or fishing adventures or in the studio, Brian is usually at The El Dorado Center of Cosumnes River College where he teaches Native American Studies and Primitive Art. Brian has an M.A. in Japanese Aesthetics and Philosophy.
If you're interested in seeing more of Brian's work, or purchasing some pottery, you can contact him at his studio, P.O. Box 156, Coloma, California, (530) 622-7307.
