Ahh, peace and quiet in the Gold Country foothills! With the summer rush over, and fall's cool evenings, this is a splendid time to visit the Coloma Valley. Visit the parks along the South Fork of the American River or hike through woods and meadows. Bring your bicycle, your kayak, your horse -- and enjoy the river. Marshall Park is open every day, with historic demonstrations on Thursdays and Fridays throughout the year. You can learn to pan for gold at the museum or at the historic Frank Bekeart's Gunshop.

If you are fortunate enough to be able to stay a few days in the Coloma Valley, you can treat yourself to the comfort of a bed and breakfast inn or old-fashioned hotel. See the Food and Lodging pages for options. Most businesses stay open through the fall, but do call ahead to check hours and availability.

Some hardy kayakers and private rafters continue to boat all winter long, but the commercial whitewater rafting season typically runs from May to September. Then again, it's never too early to plan your 2009 trips and reserve the best dates for you and your group!
