Lodging: Where to Stay in Coloma & Lotus
Lodgings in the Coloma Lotus area range from rustic campgrounds to historic hotels to luxurious bed and breakfast inns. Most accommodations are centered around the valley's centerpiece, the South Fork of the American River.Hundreds of campsites are available. Many are associated with rafting companies; sign up for a two-day trip and you'll likely have camping (occasionally, a cabin) and great food as part of the package.
Bed & Breakfasts, Inns and Hotels, and Vacation RetreatsColoma Country Inn - In the heart of historic Coloma, an 1852 farmhouse surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and edged on one side by a lovely pond. Stroll the historic village, enjoy whitewater rafting on the American River, or just relax and watch deer graze under the willow. Exquisite decor adds to the ambiance, making the inn a memorable yet relaxing destination. Four rooms in the main house go for $110 to $135 each, while a cottage suite, which can accommodate up to four persons, goes for $175 to $240.
Gold Hill Retreat - Sumptuous, rural contemporary getaway a few miles from Coloma. Surrounded by olive orchards and vineyards, the retreat offers a spa, pool, large living area, spacious full-service kitchen, large- screen TV, Internet access, and sleeping facilities that can accommodate up to 15 people. The retreat is available for events such as weddings, vacation rental, and business meetings.
Lotus Inn - History blended with functionality, featuring six rooms, each with a private bathroom. The newly renovated inn is open daily. Tea/Coffee provided in the morning.
River Gables - Corporate and family groups up to about a dozen people can stay at River Gables, a 5,400 square foot,six-bedroom home right on the edge of the river in Lotus. The place bursts with amenities, such as a theatre, four fireplaces, pool, sauna, spa, room service and catering. Seclusion and privacy add to the attraction of the place.
Sierra Nevada House - Nine newly renovated rooms decorated with antiques in our historic hotel. Restaurant, bar, outdoor cafe, event facility on the premises. Event planning & catering services available. Rates vary from $89 to $105 per night.
Camping, Cabins & RV ParksFour resorts along the river cater to tent campers and RV aficionados. All are open year-round. American River Resort - 85 sites, many of them close to the resort's 4,000 feet of river frontage. Full and partial RV hookups are available. The park features an in-ground pool, horseshoes and a pond stocked with fish. Weekend rates for riverside sites are $28 per night (two people), and $9 per additional person. If five or more persons stay, the fee is $9 per person with the site fee waived. Off-river sites are $24. Weekday rates are less.
Camp Lotus - Friendly and beautifully maintained, natural setting with lodging & camping featuring half-a-mile of river frontage. Camp Lotus has 38 grassy sites: 10 sites are suitable for RVs, with water and electric hookups, 28 "natural sites' are suitable for groups of five to 30 people. Weekend fees are $9 per person per night (weekday: $7). Camp Lotus also has four cabins available, with nightly fees ranging from $75 and $120 (Sunday-Thursday) to $90 and $140 (Friday and Saturday).
Coloma Resort - Across the river from Sutter's Mill, a multi-use campground and special event facility catering to groups and families. The resort has a mile of riverside RV and tent sites. Full hookup sites are available off-river. Also available are tent cabins, wood-sided cabins, bunkhouses and trailers for rent. Amenities include a dump station, clubhouse, pool, summer activities, a playground, an animal farm, clean bathrooms with hot showers and a country store with a unique selection of gifts, groceries, gold panning and fishing supplies, camping and RV supplies. Coloma Resort is ideal for special events, workshops, weddings and family reunions. Catered meals are available for groups of 50 or more. Site prices for two people vary $33-36 weekdays and $35-38 weekends. Group rates apply to groups of 12 or more. Rentals are rated separately for a 2-night minimum stay.
NACO Ponderosa Resort - With a half-mile of river frontage, features nearly 200 sites with water and electricity; a handful also have sewer. The park also has a swimming pool, community clubhouse, bocce ball, horseshoes and volleyball, along with hot showers, and rental cabins and trailers. The park is membership affiliated, working with several large resort organizations.
