Description

What: Workshop - "Cultivating Connection: Indigenous Plants, Seeds, Food, and Art in Harmony" - In this unique three-part, artist-led workshop, participants will come together in hands-on, expressive learning activities using native plants and seeds. With traditional Indigenous knowledge, song, and practices around using native plants, in particular the acorn and manzanita as food, this workshop will build connections with nature, culture, and with each other.  Mahala Guggino will lead a "Seeds of Change" learning experience suitable for youth and adults around native plants, to connect with basic principles of California native seed ecology through a hands-on activity creating seed bundles, aka “earth dumplings." Ameera Godwin will facilitate an experience of creating impressions in natural air-dry clay using native plant clippings, fostering an enhanced sense of stewardship for riparian habitats. Drawing from traditional Indigenous knowledge, Sara Raskie will lead participants in learning about native plants and ways of living in harmony with the land.
